Abstract
In this study, seventy-five subjects who admitted to Outpatient Psychiatry Department Medical Faculty Atatürk University with DSM-IV-TR (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Psychiatric Disorders Fourth Edition Text Revision) panic disorder were assessed via questionnare which constituted in order to evaluated to referal witch-doctors and pathways to mental health services. We found that 58.7 % of the participants established first contact with the general hospital doctors, 76 % had never applicated mental health service in their previous lifetime. First application were cardiologist in 32%, doctor of internal medicine in 8%, and much more one general hospital doctors in 40%. 34.7% of participants referred witch-doctors in their previous lifetime (26.9% of whom first applicated were witch-doctors). Panic disorder is a frequently seen disease and has heterogenous clinical features. Patiens with Panic Disorder need to protect from unnecessary interventions by way of suitable diagnosis and treatment.
