THE HABITS OF STUDENTS’ ALCOHOL DRINKING IN THE COLLEGE OF HEALTH SERVICES FIRAT UNIVERSITY

Abstract

The aim of this study is to explain habits of the students' alcohol drinking in the College of Health Services, Firat University. It is contained all students who are in first or second class in the programs of medical documentation and secretary, medical laboratory, radiology and anesthesia of the college. Questionnaires forms have been given to all students in June 2002 and it was reached 162 of 166 students. The average age is 21,85±2.34. The prevalence of alcohol drinking is 19,1% among the students. That rate is 29,7% in males and 5,6% in females. Initial age for alcohol is 17,1. According to students' statement, as the reasons of initial alcohol drinking: friends' insistence is 54,8%, wonder is 32,3%, and stress is 12,9%. 17 of 31 students who are alcohol drinkers don't want to be out of the alcohol drinking. That is a meaningful that students want to continue as alcohol drinkers. For this reason, it must be take the necessary measurements to prevent initial alcohol drink and the society must be educated about this.
