Abstract

The honey which is produced in the Karadeniz Region of Turkey and known as the ‘mad honey' contains Rhododendron ponticum nectar and causes severe bradycardia and hypotension. Grayano toxin I, which is also known as andromedotoxin, is only produced by Ericaceae plants and thought to be responsible for toxicity. The typical symptoms are gastrointestinal and may sometimes cause life -threatening severe bradycardia and hypotension. We herein report a patient presented with the typical toxicity symptoms following ‘mad honey' ingestion. Although the Black Sea Honey (Mad Honey) toxicity is very rare, this possibility should be kept in mind. In case it is not treated, it can cause undesired effects.
