Abstract
Great improvement have occured in echocardiographic tecniques recently. So, various relationships between transmitral flow index obtained by PW Doppler and pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP), which can only be measured with an invasive process and being an important indicator of heart functions, was put forward. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether there was a relationship between transmitral flow index and PCWP. 72 cases who have various heart disease were included in the study. On the same day, cardiac catheterization and echocardiographic assessment were applied to the cases included in the study. In cardiac catheterization, PCWP was measured by invasive method. In transthorasic echocardiography, transmitral flow index was measured by PW Doppler. The relationship between transmitral flow index obtained by PW Doppler and PCWP was evaluated by Pearson correlation analysis. PCWP measured in catheterization was mean 14.77 7.60 mmHg. There was positive correlation between PCWP and deseleration rate (DT) (r: 0.87), Ep (r: 0.50), E/A (r: 0.54) and E/A:IVRZ (r: 0.71); there was a negative relationship between PCWP and isovolumetric relaxation time (IVRT)(r: -0.71), deseleration time (DT) (r: -0.70) and Ap (r: -0.26). In conclusion, by using transmitral PW Doppler index, which is repeated method and having no risk and which was looked at in bed, some useful knowledge can be obtained about PCWP. So we think that it will be a useful method in following up the cardiac-patients
