Abstract

To evaluate patients requiring surgical intervention, surgical method, surgical timing and risk factors causing to insufficient spontaneously closed of arterial wall in arterial injuries that cause development of peripheral arterial pseudoaneurysm, 22 patients performed surgical interventions at our clinic during a span of 6 years were reviewed retrospectively. The etiological causes of cases were penetrating injuries in 13 cases (59.1%), arterial punction in 7 cases (31.8%) and vascular operations in 1 case (9.2%). The period between injury and getting to diagnosis was 7 days-1 years. The surgical interventions were primarily repair in 13 cases (59.1%), venous auto graft interposition in 6 cases (27.3%), synthetic graft interposition in 2 cases (9.2%) and ligation in 1 case (4.5%). The complications were wound infection in 2 cases, thrombosis in 1 case. One case died due to multiorgan failure, All cases were followed up 1-5 years. In this follow-up period, late complications such as local occlusion, recurrence of arterial pseudoaneurysm and amputation of extremities was not encountered. The revascularization of artery should be immediately restored in vascular injuries to decrease rates of morbidity and mortality. However surgical interventions must be performed in the most favorable time in these cases with pseudoaneurysms.
