Abstract
Objective: In the patients with slow coronary flow (SCF), in the biopsies taken from ventricularis, the thickening of endothel of capillary and constriction of lumen, and loss of normal morphologic nucleus and histopathologic findings of small vascular disease, such as picnos have been indicated. In the study, we aimed to investigate the rehationship between coronary slow flow and serum levels of gamma glutamil transferase (GGT) which is thought to play the role in the development of atherosclerosis in previous studies.
Materials and Methods: Total 55 patients, whose joint cardiography with effort were positive and epicardial coronary arteries were normal in coronary angiography (CAG), but who had SCF were were included in this study (SCF group) in the Cardiology Clinics of Erzurum State Hospital and Regional Training and Reseasch Hospital between July 2006 and July 2007. Of 55 patients, 31 were male and 24 were female, the mean age was 52±9 years (range 30-80 years). Twentysix healthy individuals in whom CAG was normal, and SCF wasn’t detected, were used as control group. There was no distinction between the groups before CAG as regards clinic and biochemical parameters.
Results: After CAG, in 30 patients in SCF group (54.5%) and in 4 patients in control group (12.9%), the levels of serum GGT were high, and the distinction was statistically signifi- cant (P<0.001).
Conclusion: In our study, the fact that the levels of serum GGT were high when compared with those of control group may show its role in the development of small vascular disease in patients with SCF.
